What can wire EDM cut?

Wire EDM is generally used for electrically conductive materials and is especially useful where accuracy, hardness or complex geometry makes conventional machining difficult.

Exact suitability depends on the supplier, machine, material condition, thickness and required finish.

Usually not suitable

Standard wire EDM generally does not cut non-conductive materials such as most plastics, rubber, timber, glass, ceramics or composites.

One-off or low-volume parts where tooling is not practical and accuracy still matters.

Secondary operation after machining

Components rough-machined first, heat-treated if needed, then wire cut to final detail.
